By train

Freiburg is located on the Intercity Express (ICE) /Intercity (IC) rail line connecting Frankfurt – Karlsruhe – Offenburg – Freiburg – Basel. Direct trains travel to Freiburg from all the major city centers in Germany as well as Basel and Zurich in Switzerland. From Strasbourg, France, a good rail connection operates via Offenburg.

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg: Only 80 km from Freiburg, Basel-Mulhouse Airport (EuroAirport) is the closest. It offers direct scheduled flights to 90 destinations.
From the airport, two express bus services – Flixbus and the Airport Bus – travel directly to Freiburg. The bus trip takes approximately 1 hour. Alternatively, there is a direct bus service to Basel SBB train station, from where trains travel directly to Freiburg.

Frankfurt/Main Airport: Frankfurt Airport ist the largest airport in Germany, with almost 70 million passengers per year and 1,400 landings and takeoffs per day. For those arriving in Frankfurt/Main, trains run hourly from the airport in Frankfurt directly to Freiburg and take 2 hours.

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (Baden Airpark): This international airport is about 100 km north of Freiburg between Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe.
From there, Freiburg is accessible by public transport. A bus service is offered between the airport and the cities Baden-Baden, Rastatt and Karlsruhe. The Intercity Express (ICE) departs from all three destinations to Freiburg.

Zürich Airport: This airport is about 150 km south-east of Freiburg, in Switzerland. From the airport, there is a shuttle train to the main train station, from where you can easily take the train to Freiburg.

Strasbourg Airport (Aéroport international Strasbourg): This airport is situated about 80 km north-west of Freiburg (south of Strasburg) in France.
A regional railway links the airport to Strasburg. Shuttle trains run to Strasburg approx. every 15 minutes allow you to reach the city station in 9 minutes. Once there, you can take a train across the border to Offenburg and change to a regional train or Intercity Express to Freiburg.

A covered pedestrian footbridge allows you to walk between the airport and the station platform.

By car

Motorway A5 Frankfurt-Karlsruhe-Basel exit Freiburg Mitte – the route is signposted.
Motorway A81 Stuttgart-Singen and B31 Donaueschingen, Titisee-Neustadt.
Pass Freiburg on Schwarzwaldstraße in the direction of the motorway feeder road Mitte – the approach is signposted.

By public transport

You can reach the Department of Sport and Sport Science by tram from the city centre or central station and many more stations within Freiburg. Take the tram number 1 (Littenweiler) and get off at “Emil-Gött-Straße”. You have just to walk 400m and there you are.
